AI Labs & Foundation Models

Frontier research organisations hire against a narrow evidence base: published work, training runs actually shipped, and judgement under compute constraints. We run permanent searches across research, engineering, product and the commercial and operational roles that a lab needs to function.

What this covers

  • · Pre-training, post-training and alignment research groups
  • · Evaluation, safety and red-teaming functions
  • · Research infrastructure and large-scale training platforms
  • · The commercial, operations, finance and people roles a lab needs as it scales

Roles we search for

  • · Research Scientist (pre-training, post-training, alignment, evaluation)
  • · Research Engineer and Member of Technical Staff
  • · Training Infrastructure Lead
  • · Head of Research Programmes / Research Manager
  • · Product Lead, model and developer platform
  • · Partnerships and enterprise lead
  • · Head of People or Talent for a research organisation

What the brief covers

  • · Which research direction the person owns, and who decides direction
  • · Compute available to the role and how it is allocated
  • · Publication expectations and any restrictions
  • · Whether the role is individual contribution, management, or both
  • · The interview loop, including any take-home or research discussion
  • · Compensation structure, including equity and any research bonus

What we ask candidates for, according to the role

  • · For research and engineering: specific contribution to named papers or model releases, in their own words, and the scale actually worked at
  • · For research and engineering: a training or evaluation decision they got wrong and what they changed
  • · For commercial and partnerships: the agreements or programmes they actually owned, and what they were accountable for
  • · For people and operations: the teams or processes they built, and the scale they ran them at
  • · For leadership: how they set priorities against product pressure, and how they staff and pay for the work

Things worth knowing before you start

  • · Confirm in the brief who sets research direction and how much autonomy the role carries
  • · Confirm the publication policy, and any restriction, before candidates are approached
  • · Agree interview panels and slots for multi-researcher loops before a shortlist goes out
  • · Agree how compute is allocated to the role, in writing

Questions we are asked

Do you only work on research roles?
No. We run permanent searches across the whole organisation, including product, commercial, operations and leadership roles.
Can you work on a confidential search?
Yes. A search can be run without naming the hiring organisation publicly, and any vacancy page can be kept private.
What do you need before starting?
An agreed brief, agreed terms in writing, and a named decision maker for the process.
